The PRGN Hong Kong Conference 2024

Members of the Public Relations Global Network meet next in Hong Kong for their annual conference on May 23-24 2024.

The event will include the PRGN Hong Kong Conference on May 23, 2024 -- an open part of the member conference guests from around the world are welcome to join and follow online.

This hybrid conference will include a panel session on the media and social media landscape of main Asian markets – most notably China, South Korea and Japan – and the lessons learned for global brands approaching these vast and lucrative markets. Another session will delve into the latest trends and new approaches to issues and crisis management in a more and more complex world, drawing speakers from Asian and U.S. markets.

The panels will run from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. HKT and 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. HKT

Panel 1. Navigating APAC’s Diverse Media and Social Media Landscape

Michael Webster, Executive Chairman of Telum Media, will join PRGN members from China, Korea and Japan for a 90-minute session to delve into the intricacies of APAC’s media landscape, examining the latest trends, social media platforms, technologies, and consumer behaviors that shape how information is distributed and consumed.

Andy See, PRGN President and Founder, Principal Partner and Managing Director of Perspective Strategies, PRGN’s agency member in Malaysia, will moderate the discussion.

PRGN members present at the event, as well as guests joining online, will have the opportunity to ask questions from the panelists.

In his keynote speech, Michael will offer a high-level analysis of current media and social media trends, the challenges brought by emerging technologies, and evolving user habits.

PRGN President and Founder of Perspective Strategies

Andy is Founder, Principal Partner and Managing Director of Perspective Strategies, PRGN’s member agency in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As President of PRGN in 2023-2024, Andy will moderate this panel discussion to help show the cultural diversity of Asia and offer businesses and communicators insights to find the right approach in this region.

Grace Haekyung Son

Managing Director of PR House, PRGN's agency member in South Korea.

With 25+ years of experience, Grace provides strategic direction and manages PR activities for global and local organizations in South Korea. She focuses on understanding client requirements and constantly works on building media relations for them. Grace will bring her media and social media expertise in Korea to this panel.

Judy Kuramata

With 12+ years at cosmetic giants Chanel, Revlon and Maybelline as PR and marketing executive, Judy started an independent career leading global fashion and lifestyle projects. She excels in hotel and food industries, working with brands like Hyatt Hotels. Judy will bring her expertise of the Japanese media and social media.

Linda Li

Executive Director of China Advocate, PRGN's agency member in Beijing, China.

Linda has 12 years of experience in integrated corporate communications in China. Her specialties range from strategic counselling, brand positioning and messaging, to government relations, media & KOL communications, as well as IPO PR and crisis management. Linda will explain the vast media and social media market of China.

Panel 2. Crisis and Issue Management in a Transformed World

In a transformed world marked by rapid change and unforeseen challenges, the ability to navigate crises effectively has become paramount. Speakers of this panel will delve deep into the critical aspects of leadership during times of crisis and how different regions approach these challenges while staying true to their cultural identities. Recognizing crisis management is not one-size-fits-all, we will also analyze how regions around the world harness their cultural strengths and traditions to tackle crises unique to their context.

The session will be opened by PRGN Hong Kong Conference Host Joanne Chan.

Martin Li

CFO of Hengan International, a Hong Kong-based competitor of global FMCG-companies P&G and Johnson+Johnson with presence in mainland China, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

As a keynote speaker of this panel, Martin will share insights on the strategic transformation of businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic and his experiences in educating corporate boards on the critical aspects of ESG matters.

Joanne Chan

Managing Director of LBS Communications, PRGN’s member agency in Hong Kong, Regional Vice President of PRGN for Asia-Pacific and Host of the PRGN Hong Kong Conference 2024.

Joanne has over 20 years of experience in financial communications, corporate branding and the media sector. Joanne will moderate this session on crisis and issues management and share her insights from the region.

Boh Tiong Yap

Managing Director of Mileage Communications, PRGN's member agency in Singapore.

Before starting Mileage Communications, Boh Tiong Yap worked with a number of leading Singapore companies in senior public relations and marketing positions. These included Singapore Airlines, United Overseas Bank and Inchcape Berhad. Boh Tiong has several decades of experience managing crisis situations for the maritime industry and other key sectors around Singapore. He brings insights and case studies from the maritime sector on handling various jurisdictions in the Asian seas – lessons for global companies to approach APAC.

Andy See

PRGN President and Founder and Principal Partner of Perspective Strategies, PRGN's member agency in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

After spending more than 10 years working with leading multinational and Malaysian consultancies including The Boston Consulting Group and Edelman, Andy established Perspective Strategies in 2006 to deliver strategic counsel and quality services. He will share insights on managing public relations crises, including PR tactics to mitigate brand boycotts, religious taboos, and other sensitive issues.

Brad Kostka

PRGN Treasurer and President of Roopco, PRGN’s member agency in Cleveland, Ohio.

For more than two decades, Brad has provided strategic communication counsel to organizations ranging from global, publicly traded corporations to local startups. His experience includes communications strategy, branding, content marketing, media relations, investor relations and crisis communications. In the panel, Brad will cover crises involving layoffs, bankruptcies, board disputes, mergers and acquisitions, and leadership transitions.
